He had a fantastic day - got the new Super Mario Brothers for Wii as well as some other new stuff!

Catherine and I can't believe that it's been a decade with the little guy. He's grown to be such an awesome dude!

We've been busy out and about the past month ... it's always quite a busy time of year.

There was a parade, someone's birthday, some skating lessons, hockey games, and can't forget visiting with the big dude in the red suit!

We're going to be off for some skiing after the big day and then back to the regular program after that.

More to come ... I seem to recall that there are some birthdays coming up soon after the new year... hmmm....

Can’t say that we’re entirely happy to be home as we were swimming in a warm pool in the morning and ended up in a cold, dark and rainy place later in the evening...

We all had a fantastic time. We explored a lot of Maui over the past seven days ... well, at least a lot of the parts along the west and south coast. Specifically, if it had something to do with sand, water and sun, then we were there.

She’s been talking about turning five for the past few months and finally, the big day arrives.

She received a bead necklace/bracelet set from Alex, a cute stuffed dog from Chris and a sticker book and new scooter from Mommy and Daddy!

She got to go to school with a bunch of cupcakes for her class - we can’t wait to hear what happens.

...Everyone seems to be really enjoying going back. Alex is on full day and seems to quite enjoy the experience. Sam seems to be truly enjoying herself in her class as well as in after school care. Yesterday, we got reports of her playing hockey with all the boys and holding her own ... not totally unexpected!

Everyone ran straight up to their rooms and played with almost everything they saw while Catherine and I unpacked.

We started out at mom and dad’s place, visited with Aunt Beth and Uncle Nick as well as Finley and Max. Then we were off to Toronto to see Kath, Alan and everyone else from the T.O. contingent. Chris got to visit and catch up with some of his old friends too.

...We only really had time to check out the War Museum and Parliament Hill in the midst of catching up with a couple of friends. We’ll definitely have to go back and see the rest of the city and get with the folks we didn’t have time to squeeze in up there.

Back to Toronto after that to see Uncle Kai and Aunt Nicole (plus Dookie) and one last visit with Grandma and Grandpa (with surprise guests Aunt Anne Marie and Uncle Denny!), then it was up at 6:00 in the morning (3:00 AM in Vancouver) to catch the plane back to Seattle...

Well, the we’re all having a fantastic summer - it’s been warm and sunny out here on the west coast.

Kids have been in and out of camps - only one camp received a “meh” report. Sam has been in gymnastics camps, Alex has been in Theater and Gymnastics and Chris has been in Engineering, Swimming and Football.

...The “big” thing to happen this summer though is Sam learning how to ride her bike without training wheels. Sure, we still have to look out for bushes along the sidewalk as they seem to have some sort of magnetic force on her bike...

Other than that, we’re off to a whirlwind tour of southern Ontario next week - visiting grandparents, aunts, uncles and lots of friends all up and down the 401 corridor!

The family was up at Whistler for Canada Day - lots of sun, warm weather and playing outside!

We all had a go at the bungee jumping / trampoline thing as well as the “summer luge”. There were trips to local lakes, swimming, sand castles, catching minnows and tadpoles, hikes, badminton and hiking / scootering around. We found that we need to get a bike rack - I tried, unsuccessfully to get at least the kids bikes in the back of the car, but found that even the bikes by themselves couldn’t fit ... Geez, I wish these kids would stop growing! :)

Yesterday, Chris and Alex got out of school at noon. We celebrated the end of school by going out to McDonalds for lunch and then to FutureShop to buy a new NintendoDS for Alex and a copy of Wii MarioKart for Chris.

Today, was our first full day of summer vacation, so in addition to the requisite lounging around and playing with new toys, we went off to the library to get some new books and then I brought the kids out to Camosun Bog - just down the street - for an “expedition”.

Each of the kids brought their own camera - thought it’d be cool to see what they all thought was interesting...

We thought she was so cute - definitely the focus of our attention!

...You can’t help but notice that the most popular and chosen outfit shade in the class is ... well ... PINK. A memorable quote from and earlier class I heard: “Mommy, why am I the only one dressed in BLUE ?” Next class, there were no deviants!

From the photos, you can definitely see that she’s been having a lot of fun! We both agreed that she’s definitely got a lot of spunk and energy - grace ... will probably need a little more time.
